East London is SA’s only river Port, and while it caters mostly for coastal containers trade, it is a major motor industry Port and has been in the past, a major Maize export Port.

RSA, in conjunction with the motor industry, set standards for handling motor vehicles and is intimately involved with the cargoes handled at the Port which include Cement, Citrus and Livestock.

RSA handles repair vessels at the Drydock. The Port of East London is often used as a Port of refuge for distressed vessels.
